Phlebotomist / Pathology Collector

The Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS) has been specified by the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship in accordance with the Migration Regulations 1994 as the assessing authority for the occupation of Medical Laboratory Scientist ANZSCO 234611, Medical Laboratory Technician ANZSCO 311213 and Pathology Collector/Phlebotomist ANZSCO 311216.

If you wish to apply to migrate to Australia as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician or Pathology Collector/Phlebotomist under the General Skilled Migration visa categories, you will need to have your skills assessed by AIMS. AIMS will assess your skills as "suitable" or "not suitable" for your nominated occupation against the requirements it has established.

The AIMS assessment process

1. Print an application form
2. Complete the application form in full.

3. Attach to your application form certified copies of:

  • certified qualification certificates (if you do not have your qualification certificate yet but have completed all your qualification requirements you may attach a statement of completion which has been issued by your educational institution)
  • certified academic transcripts of subjects (your transcripts must list FULL names of your subjects)
  • certified copy of your identification (passport or identification card)
  • certified copy of your valid IELTS (general or academic) report which has an overall band score of 7.0 or better (or TOEFL equivalent). (AIMS considers a valid IELTS report to have been issued within the last 3 years. AIMS also accepts the following English language assessments: TOEFL (95 points), and Pearson PTE Academic (65 points))
  • certified proof of your claimed work experience (a reference letter from your employer/past employer stating your job title, hours of work, duties required and the dates of employment and if possible a copy of your employment contracts.)
  • three (3) original passport sized photographs endorsed on the reverse side with your name and signature
  • certified proof of name change (if applicable)
  • original letter of authority (if applicable) (if you are appointing a migration agent or another person to act on your behalf, you will need to provide a letter of authority)
4. Once you have one (1) set of originally certified documents please then photocopy this set twice so that you can submit three (3) sets of documents to us for processing.
5. Ensure that you have provided (on the application form) your payment details, have enclosed a money order / cheque or draft or have submitted a payment online to the value of AUD 700.00. All cheques, money orders and drafts are to be made payable to the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists. All fees are non-refundable
6. Ensure you include ALL documentation you wish to have considered in your assessment of professional skills and qualifications. Any additional documentation that is submitted to us after you have lodged your assessment, you will be charged an re-assessment fee AUD$200.00
7. Submit your completed application to us by post to: PO Box 1911, Milton, QLD, 4064. If you wish to submit your application using a courier or in person our street address is: Unit 7, 31 Black Street, Milton, QLD 4064.
8. Once your application is received at our National Office, we will send you a notification email stating that we have received your documents. A reference number will not be assigned to your application until your application has been checked and accepted by AIMS.
9. Once your application has been accepted, it will be assigned a reference number and sent to the Assessment Committee.
10. Once your assessment has been conducted, the AIMS National Office administrators will prepare your assessment letter. Once this has been prepared it will be sent to you via express post (if you are in Australia) or via International Express Post (if you are outside Australia).
11. Our delivery policy / timeframe for completion of your assessment is generally between 6 – 8 weeks but please be aware it can take up to 10 weeks in some cases. We do not offer a priority or express service but we always endeavour to complete your application as quickly as possible.
