AIMS membership is an investment in your career. When you join AIMS you are joining a community of people working to make our world healthier and ensure continued excellence and innovation in medical science. We recognise it is essential that our members and the sector are equipped with the knowledge, networks and support to achieve success for themselves, their organisation and the medical science profession.

As Australia’s peak professional body for medical science, we are here to ensure your voice is heard as we continue to work with all health, science and innovation stakeholders and representatives of Government.
AIMS also has representation on national and international bodies.

AIMS members receive discounted rates to a wide range of quality educational and networking events, including special interest group activities, conferences and scientific workshops. With more than 40 events running every year, there will be something just right for you. Check out our upcoming events here.

We have also recently launched a series of informative and educational video presentations that are available online to allow medical scientists in rural areas or with busy schedules to stay involved.

To allow members to maintain their knowledge and skills, AIMS offers a number of opportunities for professional development and recognition. The APACE scheme is a voluntary program for medical laboratory scientists that recognises continuing education, formal courses and a wide range of professional activities that contribute to professional growth.

In addition, the Washington University Medical Training Solutions online training and competency assessment program is available free to all active members of AIMS (except Students).

AIMS membership also provides opportunities for you to share your wealth of experience through speaking at events, writing articles and engaging with the AIMS governance processes.

Further professional development is available for Members through the AIMS Fellowship Program, which recognises sector leaders for their experiences and commitment to advancing the medical science profession.

AIMS Fellows (FAIMS) are recognised under the Health Insurance Act 1973 (Cth) for classification as a clinical scientist under the National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) guidelines.

Ensure you stay up to date with the latest news, research and opinions on topics that affect you in your role as a medical science professional.

The Institute publishes the quarterly Australian Journal of Medical Science, which contains papers in the fields of blood banking, clinical biochemistry, haematology, histopathology, cytology, immunology & microbiology as well as related areas of interest to medical laboratory scientists such as epidemiology, public and community health and toxicology.

A national electronic newsletter is also sent to members each month providing updates on upcoming meetings, workshops, and exciting developments in research and innovation.
