The Australian Institute of
Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS) acknowledges with sadness the passing of
Frances Morey, a respected medical laboratory scientist whose career spanned
more than four decades and whose contribution to pathology services in the
Northern Territory touched countless patients, colleagues and communities.
Frances became a member of AIMS
on 27 January 1978 and remained connected to the profession throughout her
career and into retirement, transitioning to Retained Membership in June 2005
following her retirement from full-time employment.
A graduate of the University of
Melbourne, Frances was awarded a Bachelor of Science in 1972 and shared the
Australian Society for Microbiology Prize in General Microbiology, an early
indication of the dedication and excellence that would characterise her
professional life.
Throughout a remarkable career
of approximately 40 years, Frances worked across several pathology and research
organisations. She began her laboratory career with the Commonwealth AIB
Laboratory before serving for many years within the Northern Territory
Government pathology services in Alice Springs. Following her retirement, her
passion for science and service continued through roles with the Menzies School
of Health Research, SA Pathology and later Western Diagnostic Pathology.
Frances' career reflects a
lifelong commitment to laboratory medicine, scientific excellence and
healthcare delivery, particularly within regional and remote Australia. Her
contribution helped support quality diagnostic services for communities across
the Northern Territory and beyond.
On behalf of AIMS, we extend
our sincere condolences to Edward, her family, friends and former colleagues.
Frances' dedication to the profession and the impact she made throughout her
career will be remembered with gratitude and respect. Frances is survived by
her sons Eddie, Neil and Ben.
Rest in peace, Frances.
