Alex Laslowski OAM Recognised in King's Birthday Honours

AIMS congratulates Fellow and long-standing member Alex
Laslowski on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the
2026 King's Birthday Honours.
The award recognises Alex's outstanding contribution to
medical science, anatomical pathology, patient safety, education and
professional practice over a career spanning more than 30 years.
After graduating from RMIT with a Bachelor of Medical
Laboratory Science in Histopathology, Alex commenced his career at Dandenong
Hospital in 1994. Since then, he has built an impressive career with Monash
Health, progressing from junior roles to his current position as Principal
Scientist in Anatomical Pathology.
Throughout his career, Alex has been a passionate advocate
for quality improvement, patient safety and professional development. His work
has focused on challenging long-standing practices, improving laboratory
processes and helping ensure better outcomes for patients.
Alex's contribution to the profession extends well beyond
the laboratory. He currently serves as an examiner with AIMS and an assessor
with the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA). He has also
contributed as an educator, mentor, author, presenter and committee member
across a range of professional and educational organisations.
A Fellow in Anatomical Pathology with AIMS, Alex has
previously been recognised with the George Milsom Memorial Award and the Jim
Davis Memorial Award. His Fellowship achievement was particularly significant,
becoming only the third scientist in anatomical pathology to attain this
recognition over a period of approximately 30 years.
Reflecting on receiving the OAM, Alex described the honour
as "a complete shock but a pleasant surprise" and acknowledged the
support of his family throughout his career. He also hopes it shines a light on
medical scientists and the important roles they play in patient treatment.
As a profession, we are proud to see Alex's dedication,
leadership and service recognised at a national level. His commitment to
excellence, education and patient safety has had a lasting impact on the
profession and on the many scientists he has mentored throughout his career.
AIMS extends its sincere congratulations to Alex on this
well-deserved honour.
